Sunshine Coast business leaders have called for the community to support the jobs and tourism infrastructure to be delivered by the proposed $900 million Yaroomba Beach development.
Sunshine Coast Business Council and Caloundra Chamber of Commerce leaders said today that the Yaroomba Beach proposal was a must-have project for the Coast.
The Yaroomba Beach proposal would deliver the first five star hotel on the Sunshine Coast in 30 years, and deliver 1,400 jobs to the region – 260 at the proposed The Westin Coolum Resort & Spa itself.

Sunshine Coast Business Council Chair Sandy Zubrinich said the proposal for a tourism hub at the heart of the Yaroomba Beach aligned with Sunshine Coast Council’s economic development strategies, and was critical in positioning the Coast to compete for the growing international and national conference tourism markets.
“This is exactly the type of investment in the Sunshine Coast economy that the Council’s own economic development plans ask for, and we urge the Council to make the right decision for the community,” she said.
“This is a $900 million investment in much needed jobs and tourism infrastructure particularly at a time when there is still weakness in the global and national economies.”
Caloundra Chamber of Commerce and Chamber of Commerce Alliance President, Mike Shadforth, said the Yaroomba Beach aligned with the values of the Sunshine Coast and would benefit the whole region.
“Yaroomba Beach will put the Sunshine Coast on the world map when it comes to delivering new 5 Star ecotourism destinations within sensitive landscapes,” he said.
“The jobs and economic benefit that Yaroomba Beach will bring make it a must-have project for the Sunshine Coast.
“This is an opportunity to deliver real jobs and training for young people who want to live and work here.
“It will benefit the whole region and aligns perfectly with the expansion of the airport, airlines will need to promote a hotel like The Westin to get bums on seats.”
