Ms Zubrinich yesterday attended the Queensland Government’s presentation of the 2032 Delivery Plan for the Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games, announced following a 100-day review.
“Queensland Premier David Crisafulli’s presentation of the 2032 Delivery Plan signifies a pivotal moment in Queensland’s preparations for the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games. The plan outlines substantial infrastructure developments aimed at enhancing the state’s capacity to host the Games and deliver lasting benefits to its communities,” Ms Zubrinich said.
“We are particularly pleased with the approval of Walker Corporation’s billion-dollar proposal for a new entertainment venue in the Maroochydore CBD. This exciting development includes an athlete village, indoor arena and cultural precinct — all integral to the successful hosting of the 2032 Games and the enjoyment of Sunshine Coast residence well beyond. Importantly, it brings private sector investment into delivering critical infrastructure especially considering the current state budget pressures.
“Additionally, the introduction of ‘The Wave’, a direct rail line from Beerwah to Birtinya with a metro hub connecting to Sunshine Coast Airport through Maroochydore CBD, aims to alleviate congestion and enhance commuter movement across the region.
“The underlying principle that legacy benefits from the Games would be real, delivered and shared throughout Queensland was well explained by the Premier, and well received by the audience.
“The Sunshine Coast has emerged as a significant beneficiary of the infrastructure funding – around $10b in 7 years – which will lead to long-term legacy benefits for our region. Notably, the extension of heavy rail from Brisbane to Beerwah, connecting through to Birtinya and linking with a state-of-the-art metro hub, will provide improved connectivity to the Sunshine Coast Airport and Maroochydore CBD – a major win for our region.
“Other wins for the region include the planned upgrades to the Sunshine Coast Stadium and funding for the Sunshine Coast Mountain Bike Centre.”
