Currently, the local youth unemployment rate stands between 17 and 18 per cent, compared to an overall local unemployment rate of 6.7 per cent.
With around 35 per cent of unemployed youth on the Sunshine Coast living below the poverty line and research showing that unemployed youth in the region experience high rates of depression, anxiety and self-harming behaviours, it is crucial the Sunshine Coast business community and government put the spotlight on the high costs of youth unemployment to our society and to our economy.
