2016 has been a much better year for the Sunshine Coast. Recent reported figures suggest the Sunshine Coast is enjoying stand out economic prosperity (as measured against other Queensland regions) and in several cases, performing better than the State average.

The Sunshine Coast started the year with an annualised average unemployment rate of around 7.4%, one point above the state average of 6.4%. It now looks like finishing the year with a declining annualised averages of 6.7% (September) and 6.4% (October), more in line with state averages of 6.5% and 6.4% respectively. (Source – ABS 12 month averages).

Gender equality is important for everybody – and for our economy. Yet it is proving painfully difficult to achieve. We know that unconscious bias is costly. It causes us to make decisions that are not objective. It deprives us of talent and causes us to miss opportunities. Strong leadership is essential if we are to address the impacts of unconscious bias.
